Do you find your self wishing and hoping for something you want?
A certain vacation,
fitness level,
romantic partner,
a skill like painting perhaps?
Or maybe even relocating to a completely different home in a more ideal climate.
We naturally have an imagination to try on these experiences in our minds, and most people stop there.
They wish.
They hope.
They pray.
But, what if you said, “What if?” more?
“If you can dream it, you can do it.” – Walt Disney
“What if?” and “What would it be like if…?” are activating statements.
Our mind begins to wonder and imagine the possibility of that idea NOW. Not over in “hope” land, but in your life now. When we have the courage to consider our lives with more expansion, more risk, more joy, more fulfillment, more play we can begin tuning our mind to create those ideas, not someday, but somehow.
I wish seems to feel like the idea will never happen, like it’s mere fantasy.
“What if?” pulls the idea into our imagination. Our imagination is a very misunderstood super power in our heady, facts, science-y centered society. However, imagination allows us to come one step closer to actualizing rather than fantasizing.
In the book, ‘The Art of Possibility” by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander:
“In the realm of possibility, we gain our knowledge by invention….Life appears as variety, pattern, and shimmering movement, inviting us in every moment to engage. The pie is enormous, and if you take a slice (your dream/goal/vision), the pie is whole again.”
The realm of possibility is also the paradigm of abundance.
We are not as limited as we’ve been lead to believe. Our imagination is the beginning of unlocking our power to create in life, rather than simply react to life. It is a bold move to begin to turn your thoughts from, “It will be hard. I can’t do that! What would people think?”
To I wonder what would happen if? What if …
I got that raise?
I asked out that person and they said no, but then met my new spouse on the elevator the next day?
That vacation to Hawaii could be in 6 months?
I turned my kids old room into a paint studio and painted everyday for 20 min?
Do you remember the excitement and anticipation you used to have as a child? We are activating this neglected part within as well; this reservoir of pure energy in the form of enthusiasm, most people suppress for fear of looking foolish. I’d rather look foolish to a million people, then deny myself my most expressed life.
This is a process. Start small, don’t micro-manage the outcomes. Just start to wonder more, imagine more, feel the feelings of riding in that new Jaguar convertible. It’s truly not about the stuff people. The stuff is the delivery mechanism for the joy of who we already ARE. We don’t need stuff. A beautiful view of nature is enough to evoke love and inspiration. But, in a neutral way, the stuff is fun. It is all part of us co-creating with creation and claiming our piece of the pie that we were born to experience. We don’t all desire the same things, so YAY it is not about competition or getting there first. It is not even about other people at all. This is about you, your life, your purpose, your highest expression. Luckily, the universe is so well organized when individuals connect to their deepest expression, by default it is in the good of everyone, the good of the whole. So, it is actually selfish to deny yourself your fullest expression of life.
You won’t know how, all the steps and all the details, all at once, nor should you. Most people are overwhelmed by their daily to-do lists as is. If a benevolent Universe created you and this world, why would you be damned to the same hamster wheel of survival while other humans create, invent, enjoy and align with their desired life? Why would it be rigged to only a few? In our monetary system, this is unfortunately is true (for now), in our Universe we all have the power to activate possibility thinking.
What can you apply “What if” right now?
What if? You tried saying “What if?” more…?
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” – Steve Jobs
